The Pinnacle Challenge Experience

Central Coast Community Church in collaboration with Delhuntie Youth Care

The Pinnacle Challenge

Central Coast Community Church (C4) has completed a series of mental health resilience events for at-risk youth within the Wyong community.

The Pinnacle experience has been a collaboration between Delhuntie Youth Care who operate the Pinnacle program while C4 provided all other support.

The program is a one-day, mobile youth suicide prevention and resilience program that challenges participants through adventure, team building, motivation, personal development, and health & well-being. It ran between September and December 2022 with 95 community youth each completing the full-day course, with some coming back for additional support over several days.

The program was life-changing for many participants with real growth in their confidence seen over the day.

Benefits to our volunteers

The program was not only a huge success for the community, it has also been a real benefit for our volunteers. One of our volunteers shared:

“It was amazing being able to provide support to the youth of the local Wyong community and surrounds through the Pinnacle program. Connecting with the kids, sharing in the laughs and even in the struggles was a very special experience. To witness the kids when they first arrived, shy and lacking confidence in themselves, and by the end of the day bright with large beaming smiles, proud and cheering at their accomplishments and realizing they can do anything was awe-inspiring.

I even found myself being challenged by some of the youth to push outside of my comfort zone on some of the activities, sharing in the experience and bonding alongside them. Being able to help empower, encourage and support on that level was nothing short of amazing!”—KATE McINTOSH

Partnering with our Community

The program could not have been the success it was without extensive partnering with PHN Community Recovery and Reconnection Grants funding the program. Delhuntie Youth Care was amazing at running the program and there were 7 community stakeholder groups that sent at-risk youth to the program.

Plans are now underway for C4 to expand its community programs with school breakfast and a community youth support program in mind.
